Phone scam data » Lottery

A scam that’s been happening a lot recently is the lottery scam. You receive a call from an unknown number from someone informing you that you have won a lot of money.

The scammer claims to be from a lottery fund informing you that you need to act quickly to receive your funds, they will then go on to ask for your personal details. This may include address, date of birth, email, phone number, and passport details that they can use to steal your identity. Afterward they will ask you to pay a small fee to release the funds claiming it’s for banking fees, taxes, or for some other reason.

If you ask them to take it out of your winnings they will give you a tonne of excuses. Even when you do make payment, they will continue asking for more money. They will continue to give you more excuses on why your imaginary winnings cannot be released.
