There is a service called "Choose to Refuse"- Lets you choose who gets through and you can block up to 10 numbers. You simply dial a 5 digit number after the call has been received and it bars the last number that called you. Your phone provider should be able to offer this service and it should not cost anything. Or at least I do not pay anything with mine.

Exactly as reported by others. I was awoken from sleep by a call which I did not answer. When I tried 1471, this was the number I was given. I was then told to please hang up.

Just had a call from this number. As mentioned, it's an automated call system. After a few seconds someone comes on the line. Last week I had a call from a call centre that's been harassing me for ages from a withheld number, and ended up with the caller being abusive, insulting, and offensive at me, as well as him laughing at me as I got wound up. The bloke who started saying "hello" today sounded exactly like the same idiot. Same background office noise (they all sound a bit different if you listen carefully).
I have had to pay to have call blocking from unknown numbers. Looks like this is these scammers way of getting around it by giving a fake number like 0010000000000.
Anyway, today I just let him say "hello" half a dozen times before he hung up. Will try that if it carries on. If it's still going on, and I'm still being harassed by this call centre who clearly abuse the phone system and have no regard for TPS (which I am signed up with), then I'm going to start complaining to my phone provider about them.

When I answered the phone. The said hello, when I answered he didn't say any thing else, could hear what sounded like people in an office in the back ground.
Did 1471 she said this no. Then told me to hang up.the time of the call was roughly 12noon

Had a cold call and 1471 said it was from this number. Someone must be fooling the system and must be stopped, it should not be rocket science for the telecom providers. Maybe they are making money out of these pests and don't want to stop them. It's time for an investigation, but I am not holding my breath knowing their previous record at doing anything sensible.

Just had a call from this number, it was a foreign woman saying she was from Microsoft and that my computer had a virus, when I asked her were she had got my number from as we are ex directory she said the computer just generates the number they call. Apparently they tell you your computer has a virus and give you a code to enter they they can access your laptop etc to sort if for you. I told her I had googled the code and it's a scam. They tell you they are clearing the virus but need to download some data which then costs you a small fortune. Is there a way to report them, I am already with TPS but it obviously isn't working. I told her I had reported them to the police but she just kept talking, I hung up while she was nattering on.

Just had some guy tell me I was omitting a virus from my computer online and needed to log onto my computer so he could show me. I told him I only had a tablet and no laptop. He said, are you Mr. Mucktarshamy. I said no. He then asked me my name. I didn't reply, after 10 seconds of silence on both ends, he hung up.
