Virgin media do broadband only package without a landline. The only way to stop all these call is just to ignore them, only answer numbers that you recognise.

I had this very same number other day, didn't confirm my details even though he said my name and post code and said I was ex directory, challenged the Asian guy about how he got my details, he said my details had been passed to him by my family who had conducted an online thing in the last 6 months, said I was not interested as my family had no right to pass on information without my permission. He would not give up so I put the phone down on him.

I had a call from this number telling me that for £14 per month they could block all my unwanted calls ! They said I'm on 92 lists.
once I answer one, I can get about 15 calls in a day. I think they are all linked !!

After reading everyone else's comments I suggest you do what I did and block it yourself if they've called your cell phone.

Unlock your phone and go to recent calls.
Click the icon for 'more information'
On an iPhone you can scroll down and block the number
On some Android phones you'll need to add the number to your phonebook then you can go to it and block it

Download a redial/caller timer app, then *67 the number and call them back with the app. If enough people do this, we can jam up there lines and slow down them scamming people. I tried several apps till I found one by “water” that does what I need. I let it run all day while on the charger.

There's a simple reason why action is never taken against these people; The people ultimately responsible for these calls are the very same people who will market the solution for this problem when you've all had enough of it. These nuisance calls could, in theory, be eradicated quickly and efficiently if the powers that be were genuinely interested in doing so. The powers that be are, unfortunately, bedfellows with the very organizations responsible for these nuisance calls; that's why they're never stopped. There will soon be a solution made commercially available that gets rid of these nuisance calls once and for all. It will be the only one that actually works and it will cost a small fortune, recurring annually on subscription, like internet security. The corporation responsible will make a fortune ... that's why it's in their interests to call you repeatedly with what seem like pointless intrusions; they're not pointless at all. They're designed to drive you nuts until you're prepared to pay good money to sort the problem out. The internet security giants do the same with viruses; they create the very viruses and cyber-attacks that they then sell you the solution for. They pay the hackers to undermine this year's security package to make next year's 'new and improved' version instantly marketable. That's exactly what's happening with these intrusive and abusive telephone calls. The saddest aspect of this scenario is that there will be no alternative but to take the sucker punch. They've got all of us over a barrel and instead of selling you a solution that works indefinitely, they'll do exactly what the internet security giants do and make it an annual expenditure ... no doubt effectively marketed to the unsuspecting public on the basis that it's a necessity to update it every year to stop new and emerging telephone spammers with newer and more abusive technologies. Just get rid of the landline, you say? Yeah, try getting a broadband connection without a chargeable landline. Keep your eyes peeled for the 'solution' ... you'll recognize it by the heavy media alarmism that accompanies it and the propaganda style News At Ten marketing campaign that urges everyone to subscribe to the 'solution.' Mark my words, the solution's coming ... but not before a little more convincing by way of ever-more-abusive and threatening cold calls. Get saving ... the solution won't be cheap.

Fed up of getting silent calls from this number at various times of the day - not funny when you've worked a night shift

Silent call received from the above number today, 30th May 2014. If I find the individual(s) responsible for this call, they shall be permanently disposed with.

This caller rang me a few times but I didn't answer. I never answer numbers that I don't recognise, preferring instead to let them leave a message on the answering facility which they never do. However, on this last occasion, my caller display screen displayed the word 'INTERNATIONAL' below the number, something it has never done before. I hope this acts as a warning shot for readers.

harassing my elderly parents, surely that is criminal, please can they be stopped

Called me many times and said that they are from a computer security firm and frightened me, saying that my computer was downloading files without my knowledge and my phone and computer would be shut down! And they gave a number in London and said that I could call them to make sure that they are from a genuine company, which convinced me. I don't fall for this kind of tactics, but they convinced me so much that I allowed them to show the downloaded files in my computer, which may have been planted by them! They also told me that they are checking all the computers with similar problems. They asked for money for correcting the error, and I agreed to pay for 6 months, not one year they suggested. As there was no response from the London number, I was suspicious and contacted the bank and changed the number, but the money had already gone! They convinced me that they are from the authorised firm and I feel stupid having fallen for the trick! I am reporting it so that it doesn't happen to anyone else!
